The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Coordinating Directors (MMDCDs) to desist from undertaking any capital expenditure-related activity as they assume the administrative responsibility of the various assemblies.
This comes after President John Mahama revoked the appointment of all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and all appointed Assembly Members on Wednesday, January 8 in accordance with Article 243 (3) (b) of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936).
The president also instructed the Coordinating Directors in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to assume the responsibility of the MMDCEs in the interim while awaiting further developments and appointments.
In a press statement following the earlier directive, the Local Government Ministry instructed the various Coordinating Directors to refrain from initiating any project that requires capital while they hold the fort for the daily administration of their respective assemblies. "All MMDCDs are directed to take administrative responsibility for their respective MMDAs with immediate effect.
