The British Minister for Africa, Lord Collins of Highbury, will tomorrow represent the UK at the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama in Accra.
This visit builds upon the Minister's successful engagement in Ghana last September and demonstrates the UK's commitment to enhancing its strong bilateral relationship with Ghana under the new government.
Lord Collins of Highbury, UK Minister for Africa, said ahead of the inauguration: "It is an honour to return to Ghana on this historic occasion to extend the UK's warmest wishes to President Mahama and the Ghanaian people. "My previous visit showed me the depth of friendship between our two countries and the potential to grow our partnership even further. "The UK looks forward to continuing working closely with Ghana to advance our shared goals of driving economic growth and security and tackling the climate crisis." Harriet Thompson, British High Commissioner to Ghana, said: "Congratulations to John Mahama on his inauguration for a second term as President. "I am confident that our partnership will continue to go from strength to strength under his leadership. "Our relationship with Ghana matters deeply to the UK; there is much our countries can achieve together." Lord Collins will also meet heads of state and ministers from Kenya, Nigeria, and Cote d'Ivoire to discuss the UK's modern partnership with Africa, trade and security.
