Mr , flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has claimed that the ruling (NPP) has "no intention" to build a port in Keta, in the Volta region. Addressing journalists in Ho on Friday, August 16, 2024, as part of his four-day tour of the Volta region, the former president, who is seeking power again said when he's given the chance to rule the country again, he would build the much-talked-about port. He explained that, once the feasibility study of the project is made available, he'll consider the project. "We will re-prioritise it, once I become president one of the first things I'll ask is to show me the feasibility study on the Keta port and when that is available we'll let you (journalists) see it yourselves and then based on that we can take it from there." Meanwhile, John Mahama argued if the Keta port is needed. According to him, the Keta enclave is between two ports, Lomé of Togo and Tema. "If you're having an intermediate port is it going to handle the same cargoes that Lomé and Tema are handling?" he asked. Mr Mahama then mentioned that, if a port is needed in Keta then "It must be a specialized port or something" he explained.
