The Water Resources Commission has announced that the Bagre Dam will be spilled on Monday, August 19, by SONABEL, the power utility of Burkina Faso. This decision comes in response to the rising water level of the Bagre Dam, which reached 232.82 meters as of Friday, August 16. According to SONABEL, the water level has been increasing since Friday, August 2. In a statement, the Water Resources Commission warned that the spillage could cause the White Volta River to overflow its banks and potentially flood its usual flood plains. The Commission advised residents along the White Volta River to take precautionary measures to avoid being adversely affected. "SONABEL will commence the spillage of water from the Bagre Dam on Monday, August 19, 2024."
