Ghana's outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo has highlighted the nation's improved sports infrastructure during his tenure, particularly in the development of facilities for international competitions.

Akufo-Addo, in his final State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Friday, January 3, pointed to the construction of numerous AstroTurfs across the country and the rehabilitation of other sports infrastructure as key achievements.

These efforts played a crucial role in Ghana's successful hosting of the 13th African Games in Accra. "The construction of some 150 Astroturf pitches across the country and the rehabilitation of existing stadia has bolstered Ghana's standard as a hub for international sport including hosting successfully, despite all odds, the 2023 All African Games," Akufo-Addo stated.

The 2023 African Games, held for the first time in Ghana, saw the participation of over 13,000 athletes and officials from across Africa.
