McDan Aviation has refuted claims by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) that it owes $3 million in accumulated charges, leading to the closure of Terminal 1 at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on December 30, 2024.

In a statement issued on Monday, McDan Aviation's CEO, Kwaku Ampronfi, clarified that the reported $3 million debt is incorrect.

He emphasized that the company has made significant payments and is actively working with the GACL to address the issue. "We do not owe $3 million as has been erroneously reported," the statement read. "We made a payment last week and will resume further payments in January 2025." The closure of Terminal 1 is not the first time McDan Aviation has faced such action.

In February 2022, the GACL also shut down the terminal over operational breaches.
