The 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) recorded a significant increase in entry figures compared to the previous year, 2023.
In a statement released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Monday, December 30, 2024, breaking down the performance statistics of this year's examination, it was revealed that a total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females, participated in the exam.
Regarding absenteeism, the statement noted that 4,609 candidates, representing 1% of the total registered number, absented themselves from the exams. "A total number of 460,611 candidates made up of 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1003 schools entered for the examination.
This figure is 2.66% higher than the 2023 entry figure of 448,674.
