The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has called for urgent intervention to restore order and prevent further unrest in Asuom, following reports of an unlawful attempt to destool the legitimate chief of the area, Osabarima Ofosuhene Apenteng.
In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Regional Police Commander in Kyebi, the Council condemned the actions of the destooled Amankrado of Asuom, Bafour Boadi Obodade (also known as Kwasi Rengold), who is accused of organizing a group of thugs and hoodlums to disrupt the customary practices of the Asuom chieftaincy.
The troubling developments began when Bafour Boadi Obodade reportedly oversaw a controversial ritual that purported to remove Osabarima Apenteng from his position as the chief of Asuom.
The letter details that the destooled Amankrado attempted to install a certain Kwadwo Obeng as the new chief of the town, despite lacking the customary authority to do so. "We wish to inform your outfit that the considered stance of the Council is as follows: Osabarima Ofosuhene Apenteng remains the legitimate chief of Asuom," the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council stated. "The destooled Amankrado of Asuom is bereft of the customary authority to install any person as chief of Asuom, hence the purported installation of Kwadwo Obeng constitutes an aberration of custom and is therefore null, void, and of no effect." According to the Council, this latest act by the destooled Amankrado follows a previous report made by Osabarima Apenteng to the Kyebi Executive Council, highlighting the Amankrado's unacceptable conduct.
