Residents of Ayuom in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region have threatened to boycott the upcoming December elections if the long-abandoned road network in their community is not completed before the polls. The residents are frustrated that after the construction of three bridges connecting Ayuom to Kotei-Deduako, the contractor failed to backfill the areas around the bridges, leaving the road unusable. This lack of access has forced residents to construct makeshift wooden footbridges over the gullies created by the unfinished bridges, putting their safety at risk, especially during the rainy season. The diverted river flow caused by the bridge construction has further complicated matters, making it dangerous for pupils and other residents to cross. During a press conference following a mini-protest, the aggrieved residents, many wearing red armbands, expressed their frustration, stating that they have submitted several petitions to the relevant authorities, but no action has been taken.
