Henry Quartey, the Minister of Interior, has announced that nearly 90,000 persons have applied to join Ghana's security services following the closure of recruitment portals on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. However, he mentioned that Parliament has approved a budget that permits the recruitment of around 12,000 new personnel across different security agencies. "As of two days ago, there were close to 90,000 applications. That is the report I received from the security agencies handling the recruitment," he said. He emphasised that the agencies will need to rigorously apply their eligibility criteria to select qualified candidates from the vast pool of applicants. "All these 90,000 will be subject to the security agencies' criteria to determine who qualifies for admission…But bear in mind that Parliament has approved a budget so there is an intake that the agencies will have to do and I don't think that it's going to go beyond maybe 12,000 or so. Meanwhile, the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, has categorically denied allegations of attempting to bribe National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament by offering them slots to recruit their constituents into the security services.
