Veteran Ghanaian actress and newly elected Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Ebi Bright, has opened up about the challenges she faced on her journey into politics. Despite initial skepticism and ridicule, she emerged victorious on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections, securing a seat traditionally viewed as a stronghold for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).In an exclusive interview with Graphic Showbiz, Ebi recounted the dismissive remarks she encountered during her campaign. "I was told point blank that politics is not for 'Cantata' people like me.
I remember one man saying, 'Does this girl think politics is the Cantata she acts?'" she revealed.
Despite these comments, the politician remained resolute, describing her win as a beacon of hope for creatives and others marginalized for their career backgrounds. "I know my win will encourage many creatives," she added.
Ebi's path to Parliament has been long and arduous.
