One person has been confirmed dead, and six others are hospitalised following a violent clash between miners and unidentified individuals at Nyinahin-Kasotie in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
Assembly Member for the Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Samuel Ayine, revealed that on Monday, December 16, a group of armed young men arrived at a mining site in the area, demanding gold deposits and attempting to take over operations.
The armed men reportedly tampered with the control board of an excavator and insisted on seizing the gold.
Sensing danger, the miners alerted members of the community, who rushed to the site to prevent the intruders from carrying out their plans.
