Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), attributing their defeat in the 2024 elections to their misplaced focus on power and money rather than addressing the real needs of Ghanaians.
In an exclusive interview with Ultimate 106.9 FM, monitored by MyNewsGH, Gbande expressed that the NPP's obsession with power and wealth led them to lose touch with the reality of the country's situation, ultimately resulting in their defeat in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. "Power and money change people, and unfortunately, our colleagues in the NPP allowed these factors to distract them from the realities of the country," Gbande remarked. "They became detached from the people, their values, and their priorities, and that contributed to their loss in 2024." He further emphasized that not every political party operates with the same focus on power and wealth. "The NPP, under Nana Addo, got it all wrong," he said. "Their actions were driven by these distractions, and they failed to remain grounded in the needs of the nation." Gbande also pointed out that politicians must act in the best interest of the people, regardless of their position in government.
He stressed that the NDC embodies this principle. "I am not here for John Mahama, any specific group, or even the NDC," Gbande explained. "My involvement in politics is about fighting for the nation. "When I realized things were going wrong, I couldn't remain silent.
Even the NPP, in their reflection, will eventually recognize their mistakes."
