The founder of the All People's Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has warned that the leadership of President-elect John Mahama will play a crucial role in determining whether Ghana can avoid the threat of a military regime.

Speaking during a visit to Mahama's office, Ayariga emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in governance to safeguard Ghana's democracy and prevent potential unrest.

He urged Mahama to focus on addressing the concerns of Ghanaians and to prioritise the nation's stability over political affiliations. "The leadership this time around will determine whether the major political parties are going to have a say or we are going to run back to a military regime.

If you perform well Ghana will move with democracy, if you don't, then the military will rather come in and say 'Look we don't even trust the political parties anymore'. "If you look at the election this time, the voter apathy has gone up.
