Fourteen out of 16 persons who were arrested in connection with an electoral violence at Damongo in the Savannah Region have been remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi High Court.

Violence erupted in the constituency on December 8 following delays in the declaration of the election results, resulting in the death of one person and burning of the district office of the Electoral Commission.

The police managed to arrest 16 persons suspected to be part of the violent protest and arraigned them in Kumasi, over 250 miles away from Savannah Region, for security reasons.

The plea of the accused was not taken when they appeared before the court on Thursday, December 12.
