ECG MD, Samuel Dubik Mahama The Electricity Company of Ghana has clarified reasons for the complaints by customers of the supposed increased energy consumption by new meters that are being installed across the country. Briefing the media at the Accra West Customer Service office during a visit by the Minister of State for the Energy Ministry, Herbert Krapa, the Managing Director for ECG Dubik Mahama explained, the new meters are far more accurate than the old ones and hence would read much better. "The new meters we have are very accurate, so maybe you can get away with just charging your phone but every single thing you consume in your house, it's going to read it. We should be talking about energy conservation now more than ever, because that's the only way you will pay less. New smart meters are not cheating you, but reflecting your lifestyle, in terms of power consumption," he advised. The ECG further says the change of meters across the country is in line with the PURC regulations to change meters after 10 years.
