Participants in the 7th Evidence to Action Conference in Accra have called for the urgent need to increase the use of evidence-based research to protect communities, the environment, and future generations. They said in a communique that climate change adaptation efforts should be grassroots-oriented, focusing on empowering local communities rather than just implementing top-down policies. This approach, according to them would ensure that those most affected by climate change have a say in the solutions that impact their lives. The conference was organised by the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) on the theme "Resilience and climate change adaptation." The discussion also covered the need for better-structured and more effectively communicated development plans. Increased collaboration among organisations was also underscored to push forward the agenda of evidence-based decision-making in the fight against climate change.
