New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist and CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has attributed the apparent low voter turnout in the ongoing general elections to voters demanding monetary incentives before heading to the polls.
The elections, which typically witness long queues of voters at polling stations, have reportedly drawn fewer participants this year.
According to the latest update from the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), voter turnout currently stands at 50%, a noticeable decline compared to previous general elections.
Kofi Ofosu Nkansah expressed concern over this trend, suggesting it reflects a growing expectation among voters for financial inducements before fulfilling their civic duty. "Very soon, we may reach District Assembly turnout levels.
