Tensions rose on December 7 as Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), levelled strong accusations against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking at a press briefing, Gyamfi alleged that the NPP was resorting to propaganda, misinformation, and inciting unrest in a desperate attempt to sway the outcome of the ongoing elections. "The NPP knows they are losing this election," Gyamfi stated firmly. "And out of desperation, they have decided to resort to lies, propaganda, and inciting their hooligans to cause mayhem." Gyapfi's remarks came amidst reports of isolated tensions at some polling stations, sparking concerns among the electorate.
The NDC spokesperson sought to address these concerns directly, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and focusing on the democratic process. "We urge all Ghanaians to ignore the lies of the NPP and continue to exercise their civic duty by voting peacefully," he appealed, reinforcing the NDC's commitment to a free and fair election process.
