President Akufo-Addo has granted Executive approval for some districts to be upgraded to municipalities and some municipalities to metropolises.
In a press release on December 4, 2024, the Local Government Ministry said the executive approval was given after a request from the Ministry in accordance with the legal provisions as stipulated in Act 936. "Accordingly, the following Municipal and District Assemblies are duly upgraded pending finalization of all necessary legal and administrative processes," the Ministry noted.
The districts which have been upgraded to municipalities are Offinso North District Assembly, Brim North District Assembly, and the Karaga District Assembly.
The municipalities which have been upgraded to metropolises include the Ho Municipal Assembly, Sunyani Municipal Assembly, New Juaben Municipal Assembly, and the Wa Municipal Assembly.
