The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has outlined a grand development plan aimed at establishing the Western Region as an unassailable growth hub in the country.

This plan also includes "compensation" commensurate with the region's contributions to the national economy, an arrangement that has long been denied. "Our study has shown that the Port of Takoradi, in its current form, cannot handle the load from the Sahel despite its strategic location, resulting in significant revenue losses.

Therefore, the next John Mahama government will expand the port all the way to Sekondi, ensuring it meets internationally recognized depth standards and is equipped with the latest port-handling machinery to guarantee record turnaround times.

This upgrade will position the port to manage traffic from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger," he stated.
