Ghana's Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has urged African countries to strengthen their domestic legal frameworks to assert sovereignty and tackle international crimes effectively.
Speaking at the 23rd Session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Dame emphasized the critical role of national legal systems in investigating and prosecuting international crimes.
He argued that a robust domestic legal foundation is essential to reducing dependency on external judicial bodies like the ICC.
He called on African nations to adopt the Rome Statute or enact laws defining and penalizing crimes such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
