During a three-day tour of the Western North Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of holding leaders accountable and ensuring their credibility.
Addressing constituents, the President called for scrutiny of promises made by political leaders, using former President John Dramani Mahama as an example of unfulfilled commitments. "When the Bill governing the establishment of the National Health Insurance Scheme was being passed in 2003, I was in Parliament," President Akufo-Addo recalled. "I witnessed NDC MPs, including Mahama, kicking against it by staging a walkout of the House." He continued by pointing out what he described as Mahama's inconsistency in healthcare policy. "When President Kufuor successfully implemented the NHIS, Mahama and Mills promised a one-time premium payment for the scheme.
But for eight years-eight solid years-that promise never became a reality.
Now Mahama says he is bringing free primary healthcare if voted for.
