Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has made serious allegations against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Electoral Commission (EC).
Addressing supporters at a mini rally in Sekondi on November 26, 2024, Mahama accused the EC of working in collusion with the NPP to rig the upcoming December 7 general elections.
According to Mahama, the EC has employed known NPP members as electoral officers in various constituencies, a move he described as a deliberate strategy to manipulate the results in favor of the ruling party.
He cited specific instances, claiming that 65 such individuals were recruited in the Gomoa East constituency and 33 in the Juaboso constituency. "We have noticed that the EC and the NPP usually collude to rig the election," Mahama said, urging his supporters to remain vigilant. "We must all monitor the election process closely to protect the integrity of our votes." He called on the Electoral Commission to address the issue by identifying and replacing these individuals immediately. "The NDC is very vigilant this year," he added. "We won't try to rig the election, so no party should attempt rigging." Mahama also rallied NDC supporters to be alert throughout the electoral process, emphasizing the need to prevent any malpractice. "You can vote wisely, but if the process is manipulated, the results will not reflect the will of the people," he warned.
