Former Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has vehemently denied allegations that he purchased a coconut for $100 during the Ghana Black Stars' participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The accusations surfaced in the aftermath of the tournament, where the Black Stars' poor performance and the controversial transport of $3 million in cash to pay player bonuses drew widespread criticism.

Among the claims, Ankrah was accused of spending an exorbitant amount on a single coconut.

Speaking on Channel One TV's Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, on Tuesday, November 26, the former minister dismissed the allegations as "completely senseless." He noted that the claims were part of a smear campaign following the team's performance.
