A joint task force, comprising officials from the Forestry Commission and the Ankasa Conservation Area, has disrupted the illegal trade of endangered species in the Wassa West District of the Western Region.

The operation, conducted at Bogoso market, aimed to enforce Ghana's Wildlife Resource Management Act 1115 (2023), educate traders on conservation practices, and issue licenses to those trading in bush meat legally.

The initiative forms part of the annual closed-season monitoring, a critical period from August 1 to December 1 when hunting is restricted to allow wildlife populations to recover.

During the exercise, the team discovered unlicensed traders selling bush meat, including endangered species such as forest tortoises, pangolins, and primates like baboons.
