A Deputy Commissioner at the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of corporate services, Dr Bossman Asare, has allayed fears that the election results will be tampered with by the officials of the commission who are perceived to be politically exposed.
He argues that given the structures at the commission and how the electoral system works, no one can interfere with the process. "Even if you are a flagbearer, and you are appointed chair there is nothing you can do," he said in an interview on TV3 on Monday, November 25.
He explained that "all the electoral processes, we go through them with the parties, the parties are expected, by law to bring their agents at the polling centres.
During the compilation of the register, all the parties were required to send their agents there. "Counting of the ballot is also done in the full glare of the media and everyone and so there is nothing anyone can do to influence the outcome of the elections, the parties know this." Regarding the special voting, Dr Bossman Asare told all persons partaking in the exercise to endeavour to do so on the designated date because their names will not appear on the voter register during the main elections on December 7.
