President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to combating illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking at the first-ever congregation of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region on Sunday, he highlighted his government's multifaceted approach, emphasising the use of technological innovations and community partnerships to address the menace. "The fight against illegal mining (galamsey) is another area where we are taking decisive action.

The damage caused by illegal mining to our water bodies, farmlands, and ecosystem cannot be overstated," President Akufo-Addo stated.

Adding "Through technological innovations such as drone surveillance and community partnerships, we are intensifying efforts to curb this menace.
