John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the fight against corruption should be extensive but not restricted to political opponents. According to Mahama, officials of the ruling party should be subjected to scrutiny, not just those in opposition. He stated, "The greatest fight against corruption is not just about prosecuting your political opponents. It is also about dealing with your own people when they indulge in the same thing." He said this in a town hall meeting with the youth on August 12, 2024. Mahama acknowledged the difficulty in prosecuting his own but assured the demand for accountability and prosecution to help fight corruption in the country. "We might be friends, but sometimes it's painful, and I have an example: Abuga Pele is my friend; he and others were prosecuted during my tenure.
