American gospel artiste Kirk Franklin, known for his strong Christian faith has expressed his dissatisfaction with certain Christian beliefs which he said deviates from the Christian faith. Speaking on the recent Cam Newton's Funky Friday show, the 54-year-old musician criticized how marriage, giving, and sexuality have been "weaponized" within the Christian faith. Franklin argued that marriage has been portrayed as a necessary tool used to judge and pressure single individuals. He pointed out that many Christians have spiritualized marriage making it look as a solution to sin, an idea he strongly opposes. "I believe that marriage has been weaponized in Western Christianity, giving and sexuality have been weaponized in Western Christianity… There's this notion that if you're living in sin, you need to get married, without understanding that marriage doesn't fix sin," he said. Franklin also highlighted the pressure single women, particularly Black women, face within their communities and pointed out the scrutiny they go through during family gatherings with questions from relatives about their marital status. "It's as if not being married or having children is seen as a flaw, a sign that something is wrong with you," he remarked.
