In the wake of the recent landmark decision by the Supreme Court regarding vacant parliamentary seats, Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has weighed in on the implications of the ruling.
While reflecting on the controversy surrounding the case, Assafuah remarked that, regardless of whether the case had been heard in the High Court, any constitutional interpretation would inevitably have been referred to the highest court in the land.
In a discussion on TV3's Key Points, Assafuah expressed that even if the matter had initially been dealt with by the High Court, it would have eventually been escalated to the Supreme Court for final interpretation. "Even if this matter had gone to the High Court, the High Court would have, at a point, still referred any interpretation to the Supreme Court," he said, emphasizing the significance of the apex court's role in constitutional matters.
This statement comes in the wake of a ruling delivered on November 12, in which the Supreme Court upheld the suit filed by Alexander Afenyo-Markin with a 5-2 majority decision.
