, the (NDC) presidential candidate, has expressed concern over the economic hardships and the rise in food prices impacting citizens under the current administration.
Speaking during a community engagement with constituents in Bodi, Western North Region, on November 14, 2024, Mahama highlighted the significant rise in food prices over recent years, which has made basic staples like kenkey unaffordable for many.
Comparing food affordability during his administration to the current situation, Mahama recalled that a ball of kenkey was sold for GH¢1 under his tenure, whereas now it sells for GH¢5 or even more, with some sellers considering a GH¢10 price for a single ball. "During the NDC administration, a ball of kenkey was sold for GH¢1, making it affordable for everyone.
Now, however, it's GH¢5, and some are planning to sell it for GH¢10," he remarked. "Back then, you could afford three balls for GH¢3 if one wasn't enough.
