Ben Asante, has received KNUST Alumni Service and Distinguished Alumni CEO of the Year Award at the KNUST College of Engineering Alumni Excellence Awards & Fundraising Dinner held at the Labadi Beach Resort Hotel, in Accra.The KNUST College of Engineering Alumni Excellence Awards and Fundraising Dinner is an event that honours alumni and corporate partners for their leadership, engineering, and service.The maiden award ceremony and fundraising dinner were geared towards contributing in funding postgraduate programmes, awarding scholarships to exceptional students, and enhancing excellence and teaching at the University.Most importantly, the purpose of the fundraising was to contribute the substance in making the college of the university a global anchor of academic excellence.Traditional ruler, Electrical Engineer and Entrepreneur, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, who is also the Omanhene of the Juaben Traditional Area, was the chairman of the occasion, and commended the university for its maiden award ceremony of the College of Engineering."The establishment of these endowment fund is a trustworthy step of the College of Engineering.
It represents a deep commitment to excellence, sustainability and a future defined by ground-breaking contributions to Ghana, Africa and the world," he said.According to him, the endowment fund will give scholarships to the needy but brilliant students, promote excellence research, upgrade facilities on campus and advance the professional growth of the university.In doing these, they will be securing KNUST's position as a leader in engineering education and innovation and a place where knowledge meets action to solve real world problems.The KNUST College of Engineering is dedicated to producing the finest engineers.The endowment will ensure that students, faculty and researchers will have the resources they need to reach their full potential in the future.He congratulated the alumni and individuals who have contributed immensely to the endowment fund, adding that their contribution is a powerful reminder, strength and unity that defines the KUNST community.The funds will enable students to have access to resources, mentorship and inspiration that will allow them to achieve their greatest and give back to Ghana and the world."Through work and unshakable commitment to progress, there is no limit to what a student can accomplished at KNUST and beyond," he urged, adding "that all must work harder to ensure KNUST will inspire, innovate, transform and elevate the university to a higher height."Professor Jerry John Kponyo explained that quality university education requires all hands-on-desk approach where industry, academia, government, alumni, students and all stakeholders do their best to ensuring that their core mandate of teaching, research and community service is spot on.According to him, top universities in the world have risen to the height due to the relationship that exists between their alumni and their universities.He further said the alumni do not only support the universities with their monies but rather bringing their experience to bear by co-teaching some of the courses and monitor some of their students."The university in return organizes events to recognize the great works of the alumni in the corporate environment.
Events of such nature creates an environment for alumni of the university to network among themselves and renew their commitment to supporting the university."The College of Engineering with the blessing of the University Council, set up an endowment fund with the target of $5 million and with commitment and dedication, this dream of realizing such an amount will be achieved," he revealed.Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Rita Akosua Dickson reiterated that alumni contribution and support to the university has not gone unnoticed, building capacity and impacting lives in the field of engineering for Ghana, Africa and the world.She, therefore, urged everyone to continue to uphold the sanity and integrity of the university.She assured everyone that their contributions will be put to good use for the transformation of the university College of Engineering.The night saw other awardees from corporate institutions, individuals among others.
