Ghana's Supreme Court has set Tuesday, November 12, 2024, to deliver judgment on the decision of the Speaker of Parliament to declare some four seats in Parliament vacant.
While sitting on Monday, November 11, 2024, Counsel for the Speaker of Parliament Thaddeus Sory did not appear, and the Speaker did not file his case.
It will be remembered that Alexander Afenyo-Markin, leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary caucus filed a case to challenge Speaker Bagbin's declaration of four seats vacant.
The core focus of the dispute is Bagbin's interpretation of the article of the constitution regarding the declaration of vacant seats in Parliament and what the standing orders of the House say when an MP declares his or her seat vacant.
