The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being in support of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, asexuals, transgender, non-binary, queer, or intersex (LGBTQI+) While addressing the issue of LGBTQI+ during a panel discussions on Newsfile, Sammy Gyamfi disclosed that the NPP are strongly in support of the practice of the LGBTQI+.
According to him, Ghana has stronger cultural sensitivity to the practice of LGBTQI+ than the United State of America. "Today, among the two candidates, or the two main parties, we know that the NPP clearly supports the LGBTQI+.
Their Finance Minister has come out, to adduce writing a three-paged letter explaining why Government will not sign that bill because if the government signs, we won't get out money"Sammy Gyamfi stated.
It would be recalled that Parliament unanimously passed the bill that would intensify a crackdown on LGBTQI+ rights in the West African nation in February, but President Nana Akufo-Addo has delayed signing it with his office citing pending challenges at the Supreme Court.
