Hon Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader has shockingly revealed that he told the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin about his intention of proceeding to the Supreme Court before he initiated that action. "This was meant to be a matter of mutual understanding," Afenyo-Markin expressed, his tone laced with frustration. "We discussed this, and he gave me his word that he wouldn't interfere with Haruna's request.
His commitment was the foundation of our trust, and I took him at his word." For Afenyo-Markin, the Speaker's assurance was supposed to provide a buffer, allowing him to defend Parliament's integrity without appearing partial to one side of the aisle. "I was prepared to maintain my stance without fear of backlash because I knew we had that agreement," he noted.
Yet, without prior warning, Bagbin proceeded to act on the petition, declaring the seats vacant.
The decision left Afenyo-Markin feeling blindsided and undermined, forcing him to seek recourse through the legal system. "I never wanted to take this public," he admitted, "but Speaker Bagbin's actions made it impossible for me to stay silent.
