Ghanaian gospel musician, Josh Laryea has lamented the overabundance of songs that exalt monetary achievement at the expense of spiritually uplifting songs."We've lost sight of the true purpose of gospel music.

It's time to shift focus," he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview. The head pastor of Kharis Centre International at La in Accra, said he has once been a victim some time ago, only focusing on songs that carried such prosperity messages because he followed the trend."I've been a victim myself and it took a while for me to realise I was going off course.

I started to notice that the lyrics of my songs were changing.

Looking back now, I have some regrets but I accept that at the time, I probably didn't want to be a lone wolf so I followed the trend," he said.He attributed this phenomenon to pastors who often preach sermons full of prosperity messages rather than spreading ideas that would help people come closer to Christ and improve their lives."I will partly blame pastors for the shift in focus of gospel music.
