Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof.
Ransford Gyampo, has accused the Supreme Court of exhibiting double standard in its ruling against the Speaker, Alban Bagbin in the matter involving the vacant seats controversy During a panel discussions on TV3's KeyPoints monitored by MyNewsGh.com last Saturday November 2, 2024, Prof Ransford Gyampo urged Ghanaians to be worried about the recent posture of the Supreme Court as it may seem as though the court is taking sides in the current case. "Well-meaning Ghanaians should be worried about this because it shows a certain double standardness that festers the derogatory perception that people have about the court as shown by the various reports of the Afrobarometer surveys that have been conducted" Prof Gyampo lamented.
Professor Gyampo expressed worry that the Supreme Court is not worried about the perception people have about it per the Afrobarometer reports.
He further stated that the Supreme Court is an institution that is respected and is expected to be arbiter and also bring society together when there is conflict. "So in my view, they shouldn't show that kind of double standardness.
