An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ayamga Yakubu Akolgo, has notified the Attorney General of his intention to sue the Ghana Police Service over "unfair promotion and breach of law and due process."
In a letter dated August 8, 2024, ACP Akolgo stated his intention to sue the Ghana Police Service for unfair promotion and breach of due process in promoting junior officers over senior officers without just cause and proper procedure.
"This is to notify you of my intention to seek redress in court against the Ghana Police Service. The action concerns unfair promotion and breach of due process in promoting junior officers above seniors without just cause and proper procedure. It is against the denial of fair opportunity and circumvention of law and due process, which tends to disturb command and control," ACP Akolgo wrote in his notice to the Attorney General. He lamented that recent promotions in the service are not based on merit or seniority and are not transparent, describing the recent criteria for promotions as unjust, unfair, unlawful, and unconstitutional. He stressed that he is a victim of the recent promotions and is relying on Article 23 to seek redress in court.
