Gospel musician Bernard Amankwah has called on his fellow artists to give proper credit to the original composers of songs they borrow. During an interview with Graphic Showbiz on October 28, Amankwah expressed his frustration over the alarming trend of song theft in the Ghanaian gospel music scene.Having been in the industry for over a decade, he has witnessed the negative impact of this practice firsthand.
He emphasized that not only does this issue infringe on the copyrights of original creators, but it also hinders the overall growth of the gospel genre, which is meant to inspire and uplift. "One of the issues in our industry that is worrying is people picking other people's songs and not crediting them and then making commercial capital out of them," Amankwah stated.
He lamented the disheartening reality of fellow artists achieving success from someone else's work without acknowledging their contributions. "It's not right for someone to just pick a song that one has written, rehash it and profit financially from it.
It is so wrong and we need to tackle it with a sense of urgency," he urged.
