The governing New Patriotic Party has announced its resolve to compete for votes with the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Volta region. The party says it is targeting over three-hundred thousand (300,000) votes in the region at the December 7, polls far beyond the hundred-thousand, four-hundred and eighty-one votes (100,481) it got in the region in 2020.The NPP at a press conference addressed by the party's Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagba in Ho on Wednesday, accused the opposition NDC for failing and neglecting the people of the Volta region over the years despite their continues loyalty and support to the party."Notwithstanding the loyal support of the Volta region for the NDC, the party has not treated the Volta region as a political party should treat its stronghold in terms of meeting the development aspirations of the people."He intimated that, the NPP on the other hand, appreciates the steady growth it has enjoyed from the people of the Volta region lately and has consistently made significant contributions towards the region's development. He cited the Free Senior High school program, the Agenda 111 hospital projects and several other infrastructural projects in the areas of roads, education and ICT as key initiatives of the NPP government from which the people of the region have benefited greatly.Going into the 2024 elections, Mr Ahiagba insist the New Patriotic Party led by Dr Bawumia has a blue print of bold solutions to the development needs of the region. He said, "This will help break the NDC's unproductive and abusive stronghold on the Volta region and turn it into a battle ground where the NPP and the NDC will compete for votes based on programs and policies to uplift the people."He urged voters in the Volta region to end their partnership with the NDC indicating it has been unproductive. On the specific matter of the large crowds that characterized Dr Bawumia's recent tour of the region, Mr Ahiagba believes these numbers will translate into votes on December 7, debunking the opposition NDC's claims that the people were bused from various constituencies just to shore up the numbers at the campaign grounds.By Faisel Abdul-Iddrisu
