Chief Fisherman at Tema Newtown in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Odamentey has expressed concerns about the worsening challenges facing the fishing industry.

He highlighted that a lack of access to premix fuel, crucial for operating fishing vessels, has left local fishermen struggling to sustain their livelihoods.

During a discussion on Channel One TV's Community Forum on Thursday, October 31, Mr Odametey noted that "We are not receiving premix fuel, which is affecting our livelihoods," he explained. "The cost of crude oil is high, and supplies are not arriving at all.

As a result, fish prices are soaring because our operating costs keep climbing." Nii Oamdetey also noted that, with limited access to formal banking, local fishermen often resort to high-interest loans from private sources to fund their operations. "We are not familiar with the banks, so we cannot go to them for loans.
