Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign Team, has expressed his discontent with Parliament Speaker Alban Bagbin, specifically regarding his management of issues resulting in a standoff with the Supreme Court.
During a recent appearance on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, hosted by Kwame Sefa Kayi, Akomea didn't hold back. "Speaker Bagbin's conduct has been nothing short of inappropriate," he declared, highlighting the role of National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs in the ongoing deadlock. "All of them have contributed to this unfortunate situation in Parliament." Akomea asserted that the turmoil currently plaguing Parliament could have been avoided if Bagbin had adhered to the Supreme Court's directive. "By refusing to accept the Supreme Court's ruling-which overturned his previous declaration that four parliamentary seats were vacant-Bagbin is endangering our democracy," he stated emphatically. "This behaviour is unacceptable and must not be tolerated." He drew parallels to historical events, recalling the 2013 presidential election petition at the Supreme Court that ultimately favoured John Dramani Mahama. "Just imagine the chaos that would have ensued if the NPP leadership had instructed their supporters to ignore the Supreme Court's ruling," Akomea emphasized.
Further illustrating his point, Akomea mentioned Mahama's 2020 election petition, which did not go in his favour. "Mahama didn't tell his supporters to disregard the Supreme Court's decision then.
He respected the rule of law," he added, calling for the same respect from Speaker Bagbin and the NDC MPs.
