President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended the newly elected Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, for her dedication, integrity, and commitment, expressing confidence in her capacity to navigate the Commonwealth through current global challenges.

During a formal ceremony held at the VIP Lounge of Kotoka International Airport, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the substantial responsibility that awaits Botchwey in her new role.

Emphasising the difficult global landscape, he stated, "It is not going to be an easy task, madam, because of where we are in our human history with a lot of difficulties ahead of us.

But I have absolutely no doubt that you have the qualities necessary to enable you to succeed as Secretary General of the Commonwealth." The President credited Botchwey's work ethic, honesty, and commitment as key reasons for his endorsement of her candidature, adding, "It was those qualities of competence, hard work and diligence, honesty, and commitment that persuaded me that we should support your candidature for this officer and by the almighty God it has worked out excellently," he stated.
