The Ghana Police Service has pledged to bolster security along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway following a recent violent incident in which gunmen blocked sections of the road, resulting in the tragic deaths of eight travellers.
The attack, believed to be linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict, saw armed assailants setting up roadblocks at Gbimsi, near Walewale, targeting passengers based on their identity and burning vehicles.
In response, the Ghana Police Service has issued a statement to reassure the public, promising a stronger security presence on the highway to prevent further incidents.
The police outlined plans for increased joint Police and Military patrols along the Bolgatanga-Walewale-Tamale corridor, aimed at ensuring the safety of travellers and managing the traffic flow in these high-risk areas.
