The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Takoradi, Western Region, has issued a three-week ultimatum to customers with outstanding debts, urging them to clear their balances or face prosecution.This strict measure is part of the company's intensified debt recovery efforts aimed at sustaining its operations.Currently, GWCL is owed GH¢23 million by consumers in the Western Region, with 90% of the debt attributed to domestic users and 10% to commercial clients.The accumulating debt stems from customers' consistent delays or incomplete payments for monthly water bills.Acting Chief Regional Manager, Nana Barimah Barnier, expressed concern over the financial strain these unpaid debts place on the company, particularly in maintaining treated water supply for the region.He emphasized the need for customers to prioritize their water bill payments, stressing that timely payments contribute significantly to national development.The GWCL has stated that legal action will be pursued against customers who fail to meet the deadline.
