Being the Chairperson of the of Ghana seems to be one of the most challenging public sector jobs, requiring one to act as a referee in elections in a country that is deeply divided along political lines. Historically, chairpersons of the have had their integrity questioned, mainly by members of the two leading political parties-the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress. Over the years, politicians have accused whoever is the EC boss of being biased towards a particular political party, depending on which of these two parties is in power. Some EC Chairpersons, besides facing various allegations, have also received death threats. This week, a former EC Chairperson revealed that she received death threats while carrying out her constitutionally mandated duty.
