Ghana's performance on the corruption perception index by Transparency International (TI) has consistently declined due what many say is government's unwillingness to pursue individuals who are deemed to have benefitted from corruption related offenses.In the year 2023, Ghana scored 43 out of a clean score of 100 and ranked 70th out of 180 countries and territories included in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).Transparency International attributed Ghana's stagnation to the deteriorating justice system, which it says is reducing the accountability of public officials and therefore allowing corruption to thrive.Asset declaration has been a multifunctional anti-corruption tool aimed at detecting acquisition of illegal and unjust enrichment and for recovery of same to the state and building broader integrity of public service.The Public Office Holders Declaration of Assets and Disqualification ACT 1998 (Act 550) has been in existence for a very long time and has always been a feature of our constitutional and legal framework since the 1969 Constitution down to the 1992 Constitution.
