Ghana's main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate arrest of individuals responsible for the violence that marred the 2020 general election before the party can sign a peace pact with the peace council.National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, known as General Mosquito, made this statement in the Banda constituency during his Bono regional campaign tour to the area.
He emphasized that the party cannot engage in any peace talks until perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.The 2020 general elections were marred by reports of violence and unrest in certain parts of the country, leading to loss of lives and destruction of properties.Speaking at various durbar of chiefs and community engagements at Bui, Bongase and Banda Ahenkro in the Banda constituency, the National Chairman asserted that the reluctant nature of the government in arresting the perpetrators of the 2020 general elections which led to the death of eight innocent souls at Techiman in the Bono region as well as the killing of a teacher in Banda have led to distrust of government and the security agencies.Asiedu Nketiah condemned the killings that occurred during the 2020 general elections and urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to take swift action to arrest those responsible.The NDC's National Chairman vowed that if nothing is done, when the NDC comes into power, they will arrest and prosecute those responsible for any acts of violence that took place during the elections, stressing that no one will be above the law and that justice will take its course.Furthermore, he cautioned the NPP government to cause the arrest of the perpetrators of a teacher, Silas Wulechemy, who was killed at Banda during the 2020 registration exercise.The chief of Bui, Nana Kojo Wuo II, is entreating political leaders and followers to stay united and speak truth to power and make promises they can deliver.
