Martin Amidu, a prominent Ghanaian politician and lawyer who previously served as the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, has expressed deep concerns regarding the ongoing political impasse between the majority and minority parties in Parliament.
This conflict intensified following a recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned an earlier decision by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, declaring four parliamentary seats vacant.
In his article titled "The Politics of Desperation for Political Power in Ghana," Amidu asserts, "Both major parties are attempting to manipulate public sentiment to secure votes, often at the expense of the truth and constitutional integrity." The Supreme Court's recent stay of execution halted Bagbin's ruling, which affected Members of Parliament Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Amoako Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central).
This ruling has sparked heated debates and accusations of political manoeuvring from both sides of the aisle.
